As of his career, currently, he is working as a head coach in NCAA Division for South Florida Bulls football. In 1983, he joined the University of Florida coaching staff as a graduate assistant back and later served as a graduate assistant at Texas A&M. In 1986, he did his first full-time coaching job at Southern Illinois.

Later, he joined the South Carolina Gamecocks as a defensive coordinator in 1999. Before the 2003 season, he was hired as defensive coordinator for the Florida Gators. In 2004, he served as interim coach of the Gators for one game. On December 9, 2009, he became the 21st head football coach at the University of Louisville.
