Paul was a radio DJ and played in Belfast. He first met Freddy in the bar in 1975 and became Freddie’s manager in 1977. For the first 5 years, the relationship between Paul, Mercury, and Queen was excellent but things took a turn from 1982 after the release of the band’s album Hot Space. Other band members were not happy with the sound of the album Hot Space and blamed Paul for it.
Mercury ended their relationship and fired Prenter as his manager in 1986. Paul is said to have sold a story in 1987 to The Sun tabloid which claimed Mercury had slept with hundreds of men as well as much more information and photographs about the personal life of Freddie. Paul returned to Belfast after getting fired and selling the story. Paul Prenter died in Belfast in 1991 due to smoking-related AIDS complications.
